Parents of Autistic Children Support Group
An Update on the North Kitsap Autism Group

Parent Support GoupThe North Kitsap Autism group is a new formed group. We have our meetings the third Tuesday of every month in the parish hall of Faith church at 10:30am. For the month of February, we will be meeting on the fourth Tuesday, February 26, 2019.

We are looking for more families to join in and be part of this community.

We are looking for mom's, grandma's and aunts that are in need of support or want to give support. We are working on some great events to help not just the children, but the caregivers of these children. We are the voice of our children!  With a lot of encouragement from others,  I decided to start this group.   My son has been on a wait list for simple ABA therapy for months and getting him included in things has been very hard.  I just knew other moms were feeling this same way and the frustration felt could be turned into something workable and positive.

This month’s speaker is a ABA therapist. What is an ABA therapists? These professionals implement an ABA program for an individual with autism. ABA is typically introduced when the child is young (around 3-4 years) and intervention is very intensive-sometimes 40+ hours a week. As the child grows and develops more skills, the intensity of the therapy may reduce, depending on the individual's needs.

ABA programs include different expressive, receptive, social and other skills that autistic individuals need to learn. What does ABA stand for? Applied Behaviour Analysis.
